Who:

On Deck is a perfect program for Junior High students interested in learning about business and exploring potential career options through the BitWise Fellows program. Students in the 7th through 9th grades who are deemed capable, will have the opportunity to gain an inside view into the Fellows with the advantage of grooming their skills for the Fellows Program once they enter High School and their careers beyond.

Those who complete the On Deck program may apply to the Fellows with confidence knowing that their experience in On Deck will give them a significant advantage going into the Fellows program. There is no compensation during the On Deck program, but limited work schedules (once per month) will be assigned and are expected to be honored just as any employee. The maximum number of On Deck students is no more than 10, so any 7th – 9th graders interested in the program should apply as soon as possible.

Each applicant will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

a. Age, maturity and aptitude,

b. Areas of interest (marketing, sales, project management, finance, design, development, etc.),

c. Willingness and ability to make the time commitment.

What:

Each On Deck participant will be responsible for assisting the existing BitWise Fellows staff in fulfilling their jobs and learning the respective job functions to which they have been assigned based upon their strengths and interests. Face time in the office with the Fellows team is the key aspect of a student being enrolled in On Deck.

How:

Applicants will be interviewed with a reduced set of interview questions just as if they were applying for the Fellows. Students accepted into the program will be asked to sign an agreement committing to show up to work as scheduled by Fellows team leaders. Parents will be required to sign an agreement, acknowledging the time commitment that is being made and agreeing to help their On Deck student stay true to that commitment. Each participant in the On Deck Program should have their own laptop to bring to the office to work from.
